A world premiere for ‘in/breath’

A new choral song-cycle, ‘in/breath’, by Laura and composer Lewis Murphy (Murphy & Attridge) has received a sparkling world premiere by dynamic vocal ensemble Jervaulx Singers.

The group commissioned Murphy & Attridge last year, and the writer and composer duo were in attendance at the premiere performance at St John’s Church, Sharow, earlier this month.

‘in/breath’ is a 40-minute choral work in 12 parts, written for eight voices. Laura writes of the cycle, “This timely piece charts a literal and metaphorical journey through a seemingly unwelcoming wilderness, exploring the means by which we can find our way in the darkness and move towards reconnecting with ourselves, with our communities and with the natural world. Inspired by numerous therapeutic practises - grounded both in science and spirituality - and by the unique forces of the dynamic Jervaulx Singers, in/breath celebrates the powerful act of breathing, moving and singing together.“
