Der Florentiner hut | Oper Wuppertal

  • Opernhaus Wuppertal 4 Kurt-Drees-Straße Wuppertal, NRW, 42283 Germany (map)

A musical farce in four acts by Nino Rota · Libretto by Ernesta Rinaldi and Nino Rota based on the comedy "Un Chapeau de paille d'Italie" by Eugène Marin Labiche and Marc Antoine Amédée Michel · In Italian with German and English surtitles. "The straw is beautiful. It takes a lot to find such a beautiful hat!" A straw hat as the corpus delicti: Because the married Anaide hangs her straw hat on a tree during an extramarital tête-à-tête, it is eaten by Fadinard's horse. Without the hat, however, Anaide cannot return home to her husband, and now it is up to Fadinard to find a replacement. This proves to be a difficult undertaking, especially because the drama unfolds on his wedding day and the entire wedding party is breathing down his neck – a wild ride! Nino Rota is primarily known as a composer of film music, but his operas also guarantee the finest entertainment. With a sense of (scenic) rhythm and numerous references to musical classics (including Rossini, Puccini, and Johann Strauss), he has created a lively opera that is a delight right up to its nerve-wracking conclusion.
