Laura is a librettist, playwright and poet. She has had poetry published in prestigious magazines and zines including The Rialto and Mslexia, and song cycles premiered at Glyndebourne, the Royal College of Music (RCM), the National Gallery and Bard College (NY). Her operas include Then to the elements (Scottish Opera, 2018), Belongings (Glyndebourne, 2017) and Now (RCM/Tête-à-Tête, 2014). Most recently, Laura scripted the Royal Opera House’s new participatory workshops for children, Opera Dots. Laura is half of creative duo Murphy & Attridge.
Laura has directed pieces of new theatre at venues including the Southwark Playhouse, Arts Theatre, Tristan Bates Theatre, and Camden People’s Theatre. Her recent opera direction includes Don Giovanni (Waterperry Opera Festival, 2018), The Rape of Lucretia (Trinity Laban Conservatoire, 2018) and Jonathan Dove’s The Enchanted Pig (Hampstead Garden Opera, 2017). This year she returns to Waterperry to direct The Magic Flute. As an Assistant/Staff Director she has worked with companies such as Glyndebourne Festival Opera, English Touring Opera and Opera Holland Park.
LEARNING & PARTICIPATION
Laura is in demand for a large range of outreach, education and community projects. Recent engagements have included leading teacher training for the Royal Opera House, workshops with the Royal Opera House’s Youth Opera Company and Glyndebourne Youth Opera, directing Snappy Operas for Mahogany Opera Group, and creating and delivering A Manchester Songbook: a project mentoring pairs of composers and writers through the collaborative process. This spring Laura leads workshops in schools to accompany Opera North’s new production of The Magic Flute.
